2011-12 Ranking Survey

The 2011-12 Ranking Survey results are now available. The annual survey asks delegates from each partner library to identify up to three titles, in ranked preference, considered to be suitable candidates for a BC ELN consortium license.

The highest priority titles, as identified by the survey results, are:

  • Springshare Product Suite
  • Canadian Electronic Library – Canadian Publisher's Suite
  • Credo Reference

BC ELN's usual procedure is to pursue licensing efforts for the top three ranked products, including coordinating trials and (where feasible) proceeding to sign licenses.

29 libraries participated in this year's survey (see Appendix B, below). Two libraries declined participation.

BC ELN's proposed actions with respect to the three highest-priority titles are described in the table below.

Springshare Product Suite

  • 1st overall in aggregate votes (21)
  • Actions: Will initiate discussions with vendor
  • Proposed schedule: Fall 2012
  • Brief description: The Springshare Product Suite includes LibAnalytics and LibGuides

Canadian Electronic Library – Canadian Publishers Collection

  • Tied 2nd overall in aggregate votes (14)
  • Actions: Trial anticipated June 2012
  • Proposed schedule: June 2012
  • Brief description: The flagship of the Canadian Electronic Library, this product features e-books from over 60 Canadian publishers

Credo Reference

  • Tied for 2nd overall in aggregate votes (14)
  • Actions: will initiate discussions with vendor
  • Proposed schedule: Fall 2012
  • Brief description: Credo's Core General Reference Collections enable libraries to build deep, specific ebook collections from highly regarded publishers around the world. The Academic Core Collection covers the primary disciplines of Higher Education, providing students with the reference tools they need to perform research at any level of study

Ranked Titles: 

The aggregated score is the sum of the points assigned by each partner library where a ranking of 3 (most important) is assigned a score of 3 points, a medium ranking is assigned a score of 2 points, and a ranking of 1 (lowest priority) a score of 1 point.
