National Film Board CAMPUS Renewal 2020-2021 [1]
MARC Records Update:
- The vendor's plans reported last year to convert their records to RDA evolved into a partnership with OCLC, which is anticipated to roll out at the end of October 2020. As a consequence of this partnership, the quality of NFB's MARC records will be generally improved, they will be RDA-compliant, and they will become available to OCLC members (i.e. subscribers of OCLC's Cataloguing and Metadata Service).
- MARC records will continue to be available for non-OCLC members on the NFB website, although libraries "will have to follow a specific procedure in order to ensure compatibility with their current system."
- As of 22 October 2020, technical details are still forthcoming, but for general information about the coming changes, please see the vendor's "Changes to MARC 21 Records" help page [2].
To RENEW, no response is required from current subscribers as listed above. To CANCEL, libraries should contact BC ELN by the response deadline.
Mid-term joins will be accepted at any time and prorated to the common renewal date.
MARC Records:
Each library is to designate a MARC record contact in their response spreadsheet. MARC records are available for download from https://www.nfb.ca/ [3] by the MARC record contact at each institution.
The MARC record contact is identified in the consortial response spreadsheet. Please let us know if your contact information requires an update. Additional library staff can be set up with access to MARC records as well. The user must first create a staff profile under their institutional account, and then the primary contact at the library (as identified in their consortium's response spreadsheet) may request that MARC record access is activated for that user. The primary contact should write Chantale Turgeon (c.turgeon@nfb.ca [4]) and provide the user’s name and email address.
MARC records are updated quarterly. Differential files are not provided (aka update records; additions and deletions), only complete sets.
Pricing is now available for the NFB CAMPUS license renewing January 1, 2021. Pricing has increased by approximately 1% (ranging from 0.9% to 1.34%) over 2019-2020.
